saying feminism is unnecessary because you don’t feel oppressed is like saying fire extinguishers are unnecessary because your house isn’t on fire

Ditto racial and disability justice.

The biggest issue with equating the library with a Netflix for books is that it sends a false message that libraries are worth little more than $8 or $12 or $20 a month. That the services offered in libraries are little more than options to which people can subscribe, rather than actual services anyone can utilize at any time.

When the library is made to be seen as a business, rather than the heart of a community or a fundamental service made possible through citizen-approved tax dollars, it makes the library expendable. That expendability then moves down the chain: staff salaries get cut, then staff withers, then more programs and projects that benefit the community — books and movies and CDs and magazines and newspapers and wifi and computer access and database subscriptions and programs for all shapes, colors, and sizes of people — disappear, too. It detracts from the unique aspects that make a library what it is: a place for all, rather than a place for some.

Libraries reach out where Netflix reaches in.

Writing every story every time. Just what I needed to get my butt into gear.

Making one of these and hanging it next to my desk. This is exactly how I feel about writing. Always.

Just one of those things that I always wondered about. Stags and otters are all very well, but what if you end up with a tiny chameleon or giant blue whale? I mean, it could be a giant tub of nutella…

Anyway, so glad I got around to doing this pic -drawing the less attractive animals was awesome.

Popped it up on Redbubble because they have tote bags and cushions now which is just wow - can grab it also on cards or posters - check it out here!

When it gets so bad that you really do have to take a literal, no-shit, actual mental health day off work…

…it’s time to read fanfic.

But along with that fanfic, I will be cleaning the house and doing dishes and seeing the chiropractor to get my back fixed so that tomorrow I might still be a puddle of depressed awfulness 3 seconds away from tears at any given point, but at least I won’t have an aching back and a stinking sink full of dishes on top of that to push me over from 3-seconds-away tears to immediate actual tears. I’m normally a functional depressed person, but not lately. Lately, it’s been bad. Worse than it’s been in a long while.

What do you do on mental health days? How do you get yourself out of your darkest pits? Is there anything you do that helps you pick yourself back up and continue on?
